A graduate from Southern University Law Center. Ms. Hovell-Cox has been practicing law for over 23 years in the areas of creditor's rights, bankruptcy,entertainment/sports, real estate and personal injury.
Ms. Hovell-Cox also serves as General Counsel for Sister2Sister 2.0, a national media outlet. Ms. Hovell-Cox is Co-Creator and Host of her Instagram Legal Show @itsalllegal2 which airs on the Sister2Sister 2.0 media platform. Ms. Hovell-Cox is licensed to practice in the State of Texas and is also licensed to practice in U.S. District Court for the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.
Kimberly K. Smith is currently assistant city attorney with the City of New Orleans where she is the in-house tax attorney, responsible for all sales and property tax matters.
Kimberly joined the City of New Orleans in October 2011. Kimberly’s legal career started with a clerkship with the Supreme Court of Mississippi where she assisted that state’s highest court in its determination of complex and novel legal issues. After her clerkship, she went on to Atlanta, Georgia and worked with the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office to aid in the defense of the undeserved. In addition to her time as an Assistant Public Defender, Kimberly also had the opportunity to join Atlanta’s oldest minority law firm, Thomas Kennedy Sampson & Tompkins. She also clerked in Cobb County State Court where she had the opportunity to work on both civil and criminal matters. Kimberly has also broadened her skill set and talents with her work outside of the legal field as a mental health professional with Caring Hearts Professional Health Services.
Kimberly received her undergraduate degree from Southern University and her law degree from Southern University Law Center. While at SULC, Kimberly was a teaching assistant, participated in the juvenile law clinic and served as a law clerk with the Louisiana Department of Revenue.
Kimberly is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and has served as a board member of Pink House, Inc. an empowerment academy for young girls.
In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys running, traveling, and is an avid reader of crime novels.
